What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

Cut Your Own Damn Ear

Vincent van Gogh-ear

Inspired by Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890)’s quote, “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”. The titled responsion is…

There are some people that take a lot of pride in not having the courage to try something new. They say, “I’m too afraid,” or “Why should I risk it?” It’s easy to think that this is just a sign of weakness but that couldn’t be further from the truth. If you really want to get beyond your fear then you need to start thinking about what life would be like without courage.

The first thing that would happen if we didn’t have any courage is that we would simply be paralyzed with fear. If we had a fear that we could never try anything then the only way for us to get over it would be to be dead afraid of trying. This means that if we were afraid of the ocean then we would never touch a shore, eat at a restaurant, or drink a beer. We wouldn’t walk on a beach because it was so dangerous. No matter how much we wanted to, we just couldn’t make that step and move forward.

The second thing that would happen is that we would never really feel happy about anything. The reason for this is because we don’t feel like we accomplished something. We feel like we failed and that means we haven’t really done anything at all. No matter how hard we tried, we just didn’t get to the point of feeling that joy, peace and fulfillment that comes with accomplishing a goal.
