Your Cleft Journey: A Bushel and a Peck
“The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
A bushel and a peck. It’s the song I have been singing over you since you came home from the hospital. It has been the melody through endless diaper changes, baths, car rides, putting the NAM back in over and over (the retainer-like device you have had to wear since you were 6 weeks old). Even the kids have picked up on it and sing it to you. You love it.
🎶I love you a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. A hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap. A barrel and a heap and I’m talkin‘ in my sleep. About you. About you. 🎶
It’s a sweet nonsense song, but it communicates delight. You love to be delighted in. You giggle and smile and shake your head from side to side. I love to see that joy, so I sing it over and over.
So it is with our Heavenly Father. He delights in us, and rejoices over us with singing. He loves to see us laugh, be silly, dance, and relish in His delight.
I am entrusting you to Him tomorrow, our Heavenly Father who not only delights in us but is mighty to save. Tomorrow I must hand you over to be put to sleep and operated on, your face to be reconfigured. I would be lying if I said I haven’t lost sleep over the thought of this day approaching for weeks.
In these days of anxiety and uncertainty, the Spirit has been reminding me of His love, His faithfulness to me over the years, and His mighty power to save. I am His child and so are you, and He will never let us go. I am trusting Him to carry us through tomorrow. I am trusting Him with your life, with your sweet face, and with our family. I am trusting Him to bring glory to Himself and good to you all the days of your life. This cleft is only part of your story, sweet girl. The best is yet to come.
Oh my precious daughter, I cannot imagine that you could be any more beautiful, but I believe you’re gonna knock our socks off with your forever smile. Go get ‘em girl. You got this!
