Setting text correctly on a website is essential as otherwise, the audience will just leave. It needs to be legible and making it the right size is important. Liew and Banks agree that the ideal size for body text is 16px. This can be scaled across responsive sites so that the text will remain in proportion to the screen. However, a minimum of 16px should be placed to ensure it is readable by all.

The font family chosen should have many options within it. This allows you to easily differentiate headings 1 & 2, body text and captions. The difference is the family is best used for mobile as there is not much space of the screen for incredibly large typography. This can provide the needed contrast with weight instead of height. It is also good to choose a second font for the titles or other areas to draw attention and create contrast.

Historically, serif fonts are avoided in web design as poor quality screens can make them look very jagged and clumsy. However, thanks to the prevalence of retina screens it is no longer a real issue. Serifs tend to look nicer as body text too due to the way they link more with one another.
