What is Ketosis? Ketosis Basics and Advantages.
Firstly, I want to say that a person should not be in ketosis 24/7 every day, the goal is to make our metabolism flexible, so that we can switch between fuels in the form of sugar to fuel in the form of fat very easily and quickly.
Basically, ketosis is a metabolic state in which the body has shifted from using glucose as the primary fuel source into supplying its energy demands with ketone bodies (through fat oxidation). This happens when the liver glycogen (body stored sugar) stores are depleted and a substitute is necessary for the brain to maintain its functioning. Both carbohydrates and fats can be used as fuel but they’re different in quality.
Our body is made to burn fat. The adipose tissue acts like a black hole with infinite storage capacity. Any surplus calorie we don’t need right away gets deposited for future use.
❗️Being in a constantly fed state and burning only glucose teaches the body to become dependent on it. Every function of an organism is there for a reason and the result of necessity. If there isn’t a way to start using fat for fuel, then ketosis won’t occur ❗️
Ketosis It’s an innate part of our primal biology and a vital mechanism for survival.
Lowering your carbohydrate intake won’t yield the same effect. You’ll know how to be less dependent on sugar, but for energy production, you would still want to get into ketosis.
Once insulin has been suppressed for some time, the pancreas will release its counter-hormone called glucagon. Its job is to deplete the liver glycogen stores and increase the fatty acid concentration in the bloodstream. 🔥🔥🔥
This will also lead to the production of ketone bodies by the liver. To satisfy its extremely high energy demands, the brain will begin to utilize fat for fuel.
For this to happen, we have to either:
🍽 Fast for an extended time
❌ Restrict our carbohydrate intake to a bare minimum.
Fasting is the most natural and effective ways of inducing ketosis. After a few days, the body will be utilizing primarily fat for fuel because there is no glucose left to be found. In addition to that, it will derive energy solely from the adipose tissue.
Once you teach your body how to utilize ketones more efficiently, you will:
✅ Increase energy production and mitochondrial functioning;
✅ Experience more satiety and clearer thinking;
✅ Improve your usage of fat for fuel;
✅ Have constant access to the largest fuel tank at your disposal — your own body fat;
✅ Improve your health markers, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and inflammation;
✅ Heal your body and protect it against tumors or even cancer;
✅ Cure a lot of medical conditions you might have, such as metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and diabetes;
✅ Protect your brain cells against neurodegenerative disease. You can even increase your IQ;
✅ Protect against Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease;
✅ Increase your lifespan and reduce the effects of aging.
