Pitchers and catchers are reporting. Spring training is about to start. This morning I received an email asking me to renew my MLB.tv subscription. This off season has been glacially slow. And it wasn’t quite as frosty this morning as it was yesterday.

All of these things seem to have combined to give me the idea that sometimes writing about baseball is a good idea. It’s an idea that’s been meandering round my head for a while now and has started to take root more firmly after listening to a few episodes of some of my favourite baseball podcasts. A guest on Effectively Wild, I can’t recall who or find the episode sadly, made a comment about how everything was better if you write about it. This combined with the opening monologue of episode 41 of the Infinite Inning about how the host, Steven Goldman, decided to give podcasting one more try and is pleased he did pushed me over the edge.

Anyway, what’s to follow will, hopefully, be semi regular updates on my thoughts on the state of baseball. Why any one will want to read this will hopefully become clear. Fingers crossed.
