Things in Play Digital Signage have been moving at the speed of light. In this post, I’ll cover some of what happened this summer.

Fresh new look of playsignage.com

Operating System support

We have launched a player app for Windows Operating System. This means that you will no longer need to use our Chrome app if you have Windows-based screens. While you’re not required to migrate your setup, we encourage you to do so as this will ensure an even easier and more stable service. Unlike with the Chrome app on Windows, you will be able to configure the native Windows application to auto-start after you boot your Operating System. This gets rid of the need to invent your own auto-start methods so you can do it even if you don’t have your IT administrator around.

During the next couple of months, we will release native applications for OS X and Linux. Thus, in the future, we will recommend all our users to use these native applications wherever possible and only use our Chrome app with devices running Chrome / Chromium OS.

Player software update

Version 1.4.x of our player application is out. The most notable functional change is the ability to disable the preloading of web views. This is especially useful when you need to ensure that all the animations of your embedded websites start at the time when the container slides start showing.

Additionally, we have released a few bugfixes and internal changes that increase the stability of the player.

Team is growing

Let me welcome our co-founder, Sander, back from military service, we’re glad to have you back, man! With Sgt Sander and 3 new recruits in our development team, we’ve increased our development output to record levels which will allow us to serve our customers even better.

We’re looking for talented people all the time so if you think you can help us out, ping us at careers@playsignage.com with your story.

Misc

  • Dan has given our website a makeover. Check it out — you won’t regret it :)
  • Our DevOps people have improved our cloud infrastructure so that it can accommodate our ever increasing traffic.
  • To keep the fast development pace without sacrificing platform reliability, we have invested a considerable time in improving our testing automation.

That is all for now. Stay tuned for more!
