When I first met you,

I lied.

When I first held your hand,

I lied.

Our first kiss

was an incredibly luscious mouth-filling lie.

I’d be lying if I told you I never loved you,

and that too would be a lie,

for the truth is

there’s a dead mountain lion

somewhere in Idaho with teeth erupting

from the top of its head,

but I swear to you,

I didn’t set that fire.
