Trading card game Splinterlands Untamed is now also playable on mobile devices. The development team released an alpha version of the app. As a result gamers can visit the website through their mobile browser, and play the game in-browser. Tailored apps for Android and iOS will be released at a later date.

The mobile version of the game is a bit bare-bones. For example the shop, events and guilds aren’t integrated yet. It’s also impossible to transfer or combine cards, or open packs. Currently the only working feature is the battle system, which allows for online player-versus-player matches.

Quests rewards can be earned in the game, but gamers won’t see them. The rewards will be tied to the player’s account, and can be opened once the game is used on a desktop computer.

Splinterlands gameplay explained

Splinterlands Untamed is a trading card game for desktop and mobile devices. Players can buy digital card packs. The cards in these packs are tied to the player’s account, and can be used in the game or sold on an open market. Each card has mana points, which determines in which phase of the game it can be played. In addition cards of attack power, life points and a special power. For example, some cards can shield others, or force enemies to attack them first.

This game is build on the relatively obscure Steem blockchain. That’s one of the reasons why a development group called Steem Engine is introducing support for non-fungible tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. As a result cards for Splinterlands Untamed can be traded on for example OpenSea. It also enable interoperability, which is for example shown by Tides of Magic. Some cards from Splinterlands can also be used in the Tides of Magic card game. We call this interoperability.

The Steem blockchain comes with several benefits that could help grow its business. For example, everybody has readable account names, instead of dealing with wallet addresses. Content always stays available on the Steem blockchain. On top of that transactions are free.
