The $69.000.000 Beeple, CryptoPunks & Ordering Pizza — Play to Earn #63
Christie’s, Taco Bell, the Wu Tang Clan, Atari, Steve Aoki, all discovering NFTs!
Bonkers. Absolutely crazy! That’s it. That’s my summary for this week. Record sales for NFTs have shattered as Beeple stole the crown. He will probably remain king for many months or years to come. This week we’ve truly seen history being made. Then to image that the most fun news of this week is the fact that you can soon order actual pizza within a virtual world. Got to appreciate the little things right? Talking about food, Taco Bell also made an hilarious mistake while selling their NFTs. — Robert Hoogendoorn
A word from our sponsor — WhaleStreet is the DeFi engine that powers NFT economics. On a massive scale. They engineered B.20, the largest ever NFT bundle, and fractionalized it into the historic B20 tokens. WhaleStreet is all about upside, so dip into their liquidity pools at WhaleStreet.XYZ for rich rewards. For more details about B20, visit B20.Metapurse.Fund.
This week I’ve been happy to welcome Animoca Brands and their REVV Motorsports ecosystem as sponsors of the Play to Earn Game Festival. The event, which is powered by Gala Games, takes place from March 22nd to 28th. Among the games that we will showcase are titles like Upland, 9Lives Arena, Vulcan Verse, The Sandbox and Mirandus. This is news for the history books. Basically I can also end the newsletter here. One of the most renowned auction houses in the world auctioned an NFT by Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann for $69 MILLION. This makes Everydays: The First 5000 Days one of the most valuable artworks of a living artist. Read the full story
If you’re talking about casino games in the metaverse, there’s only one name that comes to mind: Decentral Games. No wonder Atari ended up partnering with them to create their Atari Casino inside Decentraland. The DG token will be implemented as well, which is an interesting business opportunity for their community DAO. The doors to the casino will open in May. Read more
The CryptoPunks community has seen two major sales this week, as two alien punks sold for $7.5 million each. The first sale took the NFT sales record, only to be destroyed by Beeple a few hours later. This is major news for on-chain art and NFTs in general, even though overshadowed by Beeple’s art sale. Learn more about punks
The Friday Metazone will demonstrate their latest meta, one that lets you order pizza at Domino’s. Metazone creates interactive NFTs that can be deployed inside Decentraland. So basically you will soon be able to place a pizza stand and order pizza without ever leaving the metaverse. Cool stuff. But ultimately not the first. Read more!
So first you buy a $75.000 print of a Banksy artwork. Then you scan it. Mint the digital image onto the blockchain. Burn the original physical work, and sell the NFT for $382.000. Nice move. Apparently now they are milking it by selling NFTs based on their burning event. Learn more about this crazy event
Another great story about mainstream trying to enter the NFT space. Not, I don’t mean that story about the Wu Tang Clan stealing someone’s art, selling it on Rarible an then getting banned. No, I mean Taco Bell selling taco art, but by mistake setting the price very low. Now they made $50. Even from the resale they earn nothing, because the set the commission percentage to 0.01%. I offered to help them out to raise money for charity… but they never replied. Get the full story
