Economy Balance Changes — 12/7/2023

Before discussing the upcoming economy changes, we’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone playing and participating in the Big Time Economy. It’s been nearly two months since we launched, and we’re thrilled to see the player base grow stronger and stronger by the day!

Cosmetic Shard Refining

With the recent inclusion of Refined Shards in Hourglass crafting, it’s become essential for Armories and Forges to continuously produce these shards for crafters.

To ensure a sufficient supply, we’re making the following adjustments to all refining recipes:

• Increased the amount of Shards required as input from 45 to 75.
• Increased the amount of Shards resulting from the refining from 15 to 25.
• The cost in $BIGTIME for refining will remain unchanged.
• Doubled the Workshop XP gained from Refining.

Hourglass Crafting

Adding Cosmetic Shards to the Hourglass crafting process was a move to ensure that Armories and Forges remain active alongside Time Wardens, helping to create a better balance among different Workshop types. However, introducing these shards in addition to the preexisting requirements of 5 and 4 previous rarities proved to be excessive, especially for the higher rarity Hourglasses.

Due to these factors, we’re making the following adjustments:

• Recipes will now need only 3 Hourglasses of the previous rarity, instead of 4 or 5.

This update aims to curb the steep cost increase for crafting higher-rarity Hourglasses, while maintaining a sensible cost for lower-rarity ones. This change addresses the issue of trivial costs for lower-rarity hourglasses following the inclusion of cosmetic shards in the crafting process.
