But before we dive in, let’s look back and see where we’re going. As you may already know, Ever fragments play a vital role in the land generation process of Civitas. By combining these fragments, players can create Ever crystals, which in turn are used to generate unique and fruitful plots of land through a procedural world specification and algorithmic art generation system.
Players can either hold a Chosen and receive airdrops directly or purchase them on the secondary market to obtain fragments. Once collected, fragments are burned and combined into crystals with various unique traits and attributes that modify the procedural world specification.
This modified data is then fed into the land generation system, creating a unique NFT that includes in-game geometry, statistics, attributes, and artwork generated by the pipeline. During gameplay, crystals are used to augment the land further, with each slot enhancing a specific feature.

The Key to Unlocking the Game’s Potential
Crystals have always been a fascinating object of interest for gamers. Various games have used them as a currency, item, or power-up. However, in Civitas, Crystals will allow the player to affect changes to their land during creation at an almost molecular level. In this blog, we will explore the world of Fragments, Crystals, and Refined Crystals and how they play a vital role in the game’s progress.
FRAGMENTS — A Tool For Enhancement
Fragments are the basic building blocks of the game. They are the pieces of crystals that players need to assemble to create Crystals. The value of fragments lies in their ability to craft Crystals that can be used during the minting of a terrain or to improve a terrain later on. Fragments are precious, and players must manage them wisely to craft the Crystals they need.
Fragments are earned by holding Chosens; they are considered as currency and On-Chain resources but do not hold any effect of their own.
CRAFTING — Merging Fragments
Players have to merge their Fragments through a custom interface to create a Crystal and burn a specific number, depending on the type of Crystal they want to craft.
Eight (8) Fragments for a Bonus Crystal and ten (10) for a Resource Crystal. Once the Fragments are burned, they are destroyed forever.
When merging the Fragments, players can choose to create either Resource Crystals or Bonus Crystals, which have positive and negative effects that are randomly defined within a range.

EFFECTS
Crystals have two (2) types of effects: Minting and In-game effects. Minting effects are definitive and cannot be removed once the terrain has been minted, while in-game effects are applied when the player plugs a Crystal into one of the available Crystal fissures on their land. These in-game effects remain active as long as the Crystal stays plugged in the fissure, and the player can change the Crystal plugged in the fissure at any moment, allowing for dynamic gameplay and strategy.
The intensity of Crystal’s effect is randomly defined within a range, and the Crystal receives positive and negative effects to balance each other out. The Crystals effects are revealed to the player once it is crafted.
RESOURCE & BONUS CRYSTAL — Focusing on Different Aspects
Resource Crystals focus on giving the player access to new resource deposits or increasing their existing resource deposits. Certain rare resources are only accessible via the use of Resource Crystals.
Bonus Crystals, on the other hand, focus on increasing the functionality values of the building or the population, such as Productivity or Needs fulfillment. For example, a Bonus Crystal could increase the speed of production in a building or increase the population’s morale.
REFINED CRYSTAL — A New Level of Crafting
Players can produce Refined Crystals by burning four (4) Crystals of the same type via a custom interface. Refined Crystals have the same type as the Crystals used to make them. When minting Refined Crystals, the player gets to choose from the list of positive and negative effects of all the Crystals used for the minting.
Refined Crystals are the ultimate goal for players as they offer more exciting and potentially powerful effects. Players can experiment with different combinations of Crystals to create Refined Crystals that suit their playstyle.
ICONOGRAPHY — A Visual Representation of Crystals
Crystals and Refined Crystals are represented differently in the shop. They have a series of icons on their illustration to indicate their effect on the player. The color of the effects icons indicates the effect’s intensity.
FOUNDATION CRYSTAL — Event Based
Foundation Crystals are special crystals that are only available during special events. Their function is to help the player during the event. They come in different sizes, but all grant the same type of bonus at different intensities and for different amounts of time.
PLAYER PROFILES — Choosing A Path
In our game, players can choose to be a Harvester, Warrior, or Producer, and their player profile determines which type of Crystal to craft and what effects to choose.
• Harvester — They focus on collecting Resource Crystals that provide them with more resource deposits.
• Warriors — They are more interested in Bonus Crystals that provide them with population/troops management bonuses.
• Producers — Are more interested in Bonus Crystals that provide them with producing buildings productivity bonuses.
As a player, it’s essential to choose your path wisely based on your player profile and your goals. Refined Crystals offer more interesting effects but require burning multiple Crystals, so think carefully. With Fragments and Crystals, you have the power to create and improve the terrain in our game.
Although land can be generated without crystals, it is highly recommended to use them to improve resource distribution and economic output significantly.
