Welcome to the sixth monthly review of Civitas! Gosh, so much has happened since we first revealed Civitas to the public that I can’t believe it’s been just six months — development in the web3 space truly feels like dog years. Yet, we are still very early in this journey: no matter what VCs and self-declared web3 evangelists say, building games is a complex and time-consuming business. Particularly when your dev team is made of veterans from EVE Online and other major MMO IPs fully motivated to create a persistent online experience for the years to come. So, let’s dig into the recap of October 2022.

Life after the mint

As all of you (should) know, October was the month of our first paid public mint. We sold over 1/4 of the total supply, and aftermarket trading activity never stopped and is actually on the rise. While we heard different kinds of opinions regarding the fact we haven’t sold out, we believe it was a very good result, particularly given the current global market conditions we find ourselves in. This does not mean we haven’t learned anything from the mint: we found out that everyone does not necessarily like Dutch auctions, that many people were confused about the perks of minting during the auction, and that the flow of information regarding character utility was somewhat irregular. We’ll certainly take these findings at heart to ensure the next mint(s) will be a much smoother experience for everyone involved. Lastly, it is important to point out that our funding is secured for years to come, and we are in no urgency to capitalize — our main focus is and always be on building a great game.

While we finish revealing the characters and their traits, with all archetypes revealed, and the traits reveals to follow before the end of the month, plenty is going on behind the curtains. We have spent the past few weeks reassessing our priorities and reorganizing our pipeline, and we are confident that the future of Civitas looks brighter than ever.

Sneak peeks into development

If you have been following our social media accounts, you might have noticed that our art leaks are back on track at a regular pace, and we regularly publish Meet the Team articles every Friday. Our active community has liked them a lot, and we are ensuring a steady stream of content multiple times per week. But it doesn’t stop there — we are working on our second devlog, and if you have been paying attention to our videos, you might have noticed the first sneak peek into gameplay. So brace yourself; the gameplay reveal is coming.

Collabs, collabs, collabs

We have been notoriously tight regarding engaging with other projects and brands in the past, both because we needed to know the space more to know who we could trust and because we wanted to find projects with the same level of care we put into our productions. I am happy to announce that our collaboration policy has changed for the best, as the mint marked the beginning of several fruitful collaborations. Multiple rising stars of the web3 space helped us push our mint — we are talking about web3 games, such as Shrapnel, Metalcore, Defina, Polemos, and Illuvium, as well as active communities like Ethlizards and ODA Clan. We count on doing much more of that in the future, and who knows, maybe we’ll see Chosen coming to their games and vice-versa!

Becoming more international

Those who are active in our Discord server might remember that we made a call to action to introduce multilingual articles to our Medium account already a couple of months ago — well, it finally happened. Some of our most active mods finally started translating content, and we are currently publishing articles in Tagalog, Ukrainian, Italian and Russian. The localized article count keeps rising, and we count on providing even more multilingual articles, starting from Chinese and Portuguese, as they are some of the biggest groups in our community — we notice you, and we want to make sure you’ll be able to understand our content more and more. This is why this article is going live in multiple languages.

Community spotlight

One of our community members was on vacation in Iceland and decided to visit our Reykjavik office. It couldn’t have happened better, as it was during the mint. His name is CaptainKBD, aka “Traveling Kiwi”, the name of the unique role we decided to assign him in our community for being the very first community member to meet us in person. Not only that — he minted his whitelisted spot on site! A true legend and we hope to see more and more of you, community members, in person.

Meet us at Web3 Festival PH

Speaking of meeting people in person, Civitas is finally making the first public appearance at a public event, starting from Web3 Festival, which will take place between November 14 and 18 in Manilla, Philippines. In there, you’ll find Community Manager Asam Ramirez (aka Asamael), Directive Games General Manager Thorgeir Odinsson, and the one and only Civitas CPO Kent Byers! Make sure to show up a if you are anywhere near there — we’ll have plenty of swag to give to anyone who visits and an exclusive Chosen giveaway! You’ll find Civitas in the Main Hallway at booth G3.

Final words

I never get tired of reminding you that your voice is important — Civitas is a community-driven experience, and all we want is to make you thrive. So reach out in our community channels if you have any questions or feedback.
