Developer Diary! — Pinball is the game!
Virtual Pinball machines are the latest Gaming Experience under development at PlayDapp!
PlayDapp Gamers! We’ve got some awesome news, a brand new experience is on it’s way to you. We’ve been working hard on it and we can’t wait to show it off. Get ready for the latest gaming experience from PlayDapp.
Our take on the Pinball experience is hot in development, and we’re getting ready to release it to the world as soon as the pinballs are shiny enough! Before we do, we’ve lined up a chat with one of the developers behind our ambitious project, who’ll take you through the game from now to release. In a series of Developer Diaries. Introducing Seungmo ‘Mangrove’ Choi, one of PlaDapp’s brightest game developers.
Hi, I’m Mangrove, one of PlayDapp’s game developers. I can’t wait to give you an introduction to our latest gaming but before I do, I wanted to give you some background to our project! Afterall pinball is one of the most famous arcade games in human history. So, it’s the perfect addition to our existing Arcade Pusher Game CryptoDozer.
We’re going to release information about our vision of virtual pinball in the form of a developer’s diary several times starting from today. I’d like to tell you how the game is being completed, especially sharing the motive behind the game’s development. Hopefully, our team’s passion will catch your interest. Please give us a lot of attention and support!
# Prologue
I’m sure you all remember the first pinball game you played in the arcade as a kid. For me I remember a pinball machine that is well-waxed, boasting a huge presence on the side of the arcade. When someone starts to play, I think of a pinball machine that caught people’s eyes with a loud start and a burst of flashy lamp lights. The movements of the ball, the various wonders of how it works, the full momentum of the ball as it gathers speed. The number of electronic displays that go up accordingly! It seems simple, but you’ll remember the charm of pinball, which induces tension and creates a desire to win.
Pinball is one of the most popular genres of arcade fun, with a large fan base with associations in each country. At Asia’s largest pinball game venue in Osaka, Japan, a tournament recognized by the World Pinball Association is held every month. I went on a business trip to Osaka, Japan in February 2020 to do market research and to make sure that we could truly capture the spirit of pinball. If I have a chance, I’ll stop by again.
# Why we decided to develop Pinball Games
When you look at slot games supported by mobile apps, you see slot machines that have various game rules, designs, and stories at the same time as you connect. The number of variations and styles is almost endless.
The game of pinball can also develop thousands of pinball machines, depending on how you organize maps, game rules, stories, designs, sounds, and more. I was interested in this potential for diverse game experiences and decided to develop Pinball Games.
We were confident that we could establish ourselves as an engaging and exciting service in the online pinball game market by providing a variety of pinball machines for users to choose from.
# Game planning
1.Game Experience: Pinball machines
2.Genre: Arcade
3.Platform: Facebook Instant Game
Our Virtual Pinball machines focus on five core elements: ‘3D Graphics’, ‘2D Physics’, ‘Easy operation and play’, ‘Map Composition’, and ‘Ranking’.
The realistic physics, championing full 3D graphics, with strong attention to detail to improve the html5 game market as well as html5 games as a whole. At PlayDapp, we aim to present a new standard in every area we touch.
# Sketching the idea of pinball
I started sketching out what a Pinball game could be, thinking of bumpers, point areas, flippers, and the general shape. As I refined the sketches I thought of how a ball would move in the space, so I added that in. The way the ball moves is pretty cute.
# Constructing pinball objects — sketches
First of all, ‘3D Graphics’ and ‘2D Physics’ are the highlights of our pinball experiences.
This allows high-quality visuals beyond traditional mobile platform games. By matching 3D graphics and 2D physics engine coordinates, light and realistic expression are possible even on mobile devices.
The image to the left shows a total of 8 components that make up pinball, including flippers, bumpers, rollovers, wormholes, targets, lanes, marble saves, and marble falls, and sketches to implement each object in 3D.
# Finishing up
When I started to write this first Developer Diary, I wondered if I’d written too much on the background. Hopefully, this behind the scenes look has got you interested.
With this first Developer Diary, I felt like I had to explain why I started developing pinball online games, from the mindset of a developer. I’ve tried to give you it from the passion of a developer. In the next episode, we’ll look into how everything has become a little bit more game-like!
See you then!
