An update from the PlayerMint team on how our project has changed since Project Catalyst Fund4 proposal editing closed.

Context

The following blog is regarding PlayerMint’s involvement with Project Catalyst. Project Catalyst is the largest decentralized fund in the world and is an opportunity for projects building on top of the Cardano blockchain to get funding without needing to sell equity or tokens. Projects go through a proposal process that ends with holders of the ADA cryptocurrency voting on whether a proposal should get funding or not. This blog outlines how the PlayerMint proposal for Fund4 of Project Catalyst has progressed since editing of it closed a few months ago.

Intro

Hey there! This is Aidan Rankin-Williams from the PlayerMint team. Because there was an extended period of time between the innovation and the governance stage of Project Catalyst Fund4 we were able to make some improvements to our proposal. This blog is to inform you of the changes we have made as we’d like to be as transparent and open as possible and ensure you are in full knowledge of how we plan to use funds.

What’s Progressed?

The big improvement to our proposal is that we’d like to build out the PlayerMint protocol in a website environment before launching the protocol as a Discord bot. Here are the main reasons we choose to make this improvement:

  1. User Experience: We are working to bring the gaming masses to the Cardano blockchain and want to provide them the best experience possible. For many of these gamers PlayerMint will be their first time interacting with a Dapp, so it’s necessary that their experience is comfortable and intuitive. In a website environment we are able to build and adapt this experience in a very flexible way that we can fully control.
  2. Security: We consulted with our development group Kromeon and came to the conclusion that from a security perspective the wallet creation process would need to occur on our website regardless if the rest of the product was in a Discord bot or not. This is because the distribution of a recovery phrase needs to occur in an extremely safe environment, which we did not feel like a Discord private message offered.
  3. The Launchpad/Hub: Our final reason for this progression revolves around the longevity of PlayerMint. If the first iteration of PlayerMint is a website environment that we can easily adapt over time, it will be much easier for the protocol to spread throughout the metaverse. For example when we are ready to deploy the Discord bot the only thing the gamer will need to do is link their Discord account to their PlayerMint account on the website and then engage in a Discord server where the bot is active. This makes the launchpad or hub of PlayerMint revolve around our website as opposed to Discord. It is important to note that Discord is still a wonderful environment for the PlayerMint protocol due to its highly social features. Discord just does a better job of acting as an access point to PlayerMint rather than the all access hub for it.

Important Takeaways

  • If we obtain $ADA via Fund4 of Project Catalyst we would use it to build out the PlayerMint protocol on playermint.com and then when possible build out a Discord bot.
  • We would alter our proposal to display this information but can’t as editing of it is locked. In the interest of transparency we wanted to distribute this information where possible so Project Catalyst voters can make an educated decision on whether we deserve their vote or not (feel free to share this information)
  • The feature set of the website environment is basically identical to that of the Discord bot

Please get in contact with us if you have any questions or feedback at all! We are happy to talk at any length about the progression of our project and what we are up to. You can do so by heading to our Discord, Twitter, or Instagram.

Have a wonderful rest of your day!
