A Conversation with Trieu Tran

The actor, writer, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner talks about his journey to Los Angeles and the creation of his solo show.

Trieu Tran has amassed a great body of work both onstage and onscreen. He has appeared in movies such as Tropic Thunder, and television series such as Altered Carbon and The Newsroom.

A refugee and immigrant from Vietnam, Tran created his one-man show Uncle Ho to Uncle Sam about his connection to the Vietman War.

“The deep inspiration for the play was what happened to my father, my mother, my family and me as a result of losing our country and trying desperately to find our identity and soul in a series of new worlds.”

Trieu took time to share with me a bit about his journey in the entertainment industry, how practicing Jiu Jitsu centers him as an artist, and the creation of Uncle Ho to Uncle Sam.

What did your journey into the entertainment industry look like?
