Right before the theatres in LA shut down, Natasha Ofili was all ready to open as Eurydice in Deaf West Theatre’s bilingual English-ASL production of Orpheé by Jean Cocteau.

Ofili — who has worked with Deaf West Theatre before on their production of Our Town at the Pasadena Playhouse — is a multifaceted actress and member of the National Black Deaf Advocates association. As an actress who is deaf, Ofili uses her talent to push for representation and opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing entertainers.

Ofili also shares that although she “has the voicing skills to perform speaking roles,” that “her true expression is through her hands and American Sign Language.”

Below, Ofili shares about playing Eurydice, her experience working with Deaf West, and what she hopes to see out of future bilingual English-ASL productions.
