Review: ‘Tell Him it’s Jackie’
A return to live theatre.
Live entertainment is making its return! Since theatres in Los Angeles had to close their doors in March, many have since taken to Zoom, and other virtual platforms, to keep the show going.
However, for the run of the one-woman show Tell Him it’s Jackie, the piece’s playwright and director, Tom Dugan, wanted to bring people back to live theatre. Sixteen outdoor and socially-distanced seats later, and Dugan’s Backyard Playhouse was born!
Intimate theatre in the truest sense, this production takes place — as the theatre’s name suggests — in the playwright’s backyard. Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask, and the actress playing Jackie Kennedy is frequently tested for COVID-19.
Tell Him it’s Jackie is a revealing conversation with Jackie Kennedy shortly after she receives the news that Bobby Kennedy has been assassinated. Believing herself incapable of living through another great loss, Jackie resolves to take her own life. But, before she goes, she wants to deliver one final confession.
