The Playfair Wellness Programme Part III
TL;DR: 4 years ago we began our partnership with Heka, which now gives Playfair founders access to over 5,000 health experiences to fulfil their wellbeing needs.
When a film franchise commits to a third film, you know the first two must have been smash hits. So writing this third instalment of the Playfair Wellness Programme (after parts One and Two) makes us equally proud and reflective of the past 4 years.
That’s almost how long it’s been since we launched our partnership with Heka, giving Playfair founders and team members access to over 3,000 health experiences to encourage a healthy body and mind.
Since then, Heka has added even more and now offers over 5,000 experiences. But what’s available only really matters if people are making use of it.
93% of employees that use Heka say it makes them happier and healthier, so we’re always intrigued to see how our data compares whenever we have the opportunity.
Let’s rewind for a second
But first, a quick reminder on what the Playfair Wellness Programme is.
It takes a huge amount of emotional resilience and energy to run a rapidly growing business, which can take a toll on the mental and physical health of founders.
To counter this, each month we provide every founder in our portfolio with £50 to spend on Heka. With Heka, they can access those 5,000+ benefits and experiences, and get suggestions from the platform on what’s best suited to their wellbeing needs.
Those recommendations range from apps that help you train for a running event to healthy meal kits for people that are always on the go or fertility testing and advice for people thinking about starting a family.
It’s incredibly important to Playfair as an employer and investor that we support our team and founders beyond their day-to-day work, as we know people can only do their best work when they feel their best.
So let’s get back to the data to see how the programme has been supporting our founders.
Something for everyone
We expected from the outset that data coming from bookings across our own team and our founder portfolio will be diverse.
But the numbers blew us away.
On average, Playfair members each booked from 3.2 separate Heka partners in the last 12 months. The most popular categories included Nutrition (16% of bookings), Physiotherapy and massage (12%), and Plants & gardening (11%).
But some quick maths shows that those only accounted for 39% of how our people have used Heka this past year. Some equally important but underserved areas such as Fertility and Menopause (2%), Mental health (3%), Health testing (5%), Learning & development (7%) and Sleep (7%) were also booked.
Dig beneath the surface and you find the unique ways people have been looking after themselves (anonymised, of course). Guides to wild swimming, health MOT checkups, food intolerance tests, herb growing kits, gut health supplements, fertility tests, language courses and so much more that HR teams could only dream of offering their employees.
Ultimately, the breadth of services on Heka means that every founder at Playfair is guided to support that really works for them personally.
