You, too, can have a Tiger Woods moment
The earth beneath your feet won’t quake. Deafening roars won’t envelop you. Twitter won’t roll with rapid fire amazement.
But you, too, can have a Tiger Woods moment.
Woods’ triumphant Masters victory punctuated a remarkable comeback, his 15th major golf championship resuscitating a career on life support following a series of debilitating injuries, scary surgeries and personal failures.
It was over. Or so it seemed. Woods’ goal wasn’t to slip on another green jacket. More humbly, Woods wanted simply to walk a course pain-free. To swing a club without wincing or clutching his back or his knee. If greatness was in his future, it would be a gift, not an expectation.
But there he was Sunday, fists clenched, arms thrust skyward, sun beaming on that signature red shirt, swimming in the euphoria that had eluded him for a decade.
The resurgence was complete.
We witnessed a tremendous feat. But rest assured — this wasn’t a moment reserved for Tiger Woods. Second chances are not available to only the elite. They are yours and mine, an opportunity for rebirths and do-overs.
To the person who lost a job, financial security and sense of being.
To the student who did not prioritize academics until the final hour.
To the addict who relapsed and the leader who lapsed. To the young person who wasted his youth and the elder who stopped embracing life.
For each and everyone, there is the room for a comeback.
There is an eventual end, but as long as there is breath, you’ve not reached it.
Tiger Woods’ moment is historic. For the fifth time he won the Masters when it looked long ago that he’d already won for the final time. You get the feeling he’s not done yet.
Neither am I. Neither are you.
Pump your fists. Your Tiger Woods moment is near.
