In the frozen forests of Canada lived a young Wolf. He loved his home and would spend all day rolling in great drifts of snow or chasing his shadow around the trunks of the pine trees. He could run for miles and miles, and the trees and the snow would never end. His was a cold world, where it was always winter, but his coat was thick and long, and however loud the north wind howled, the wolves could howl louder, for they were creatures of the wild, winter world.

But one night, as the Wolf lay curled up asleep in a tight little ball of fur, he had a dream. A dream of a very different world. In place of the sturdy pines bracing their roots against the polar storms, delicate palms swayed in a tropical breeze. Where snow lay white and crisp in the Wolf’s home, in his dream, he saw soft, yellow sand that stretched to the sea. And in the sky, instead of the cold, silver beauty of the arctic Moon, there shone the burning, golden glory of the equatorial Sun. What a strange world it was, how different, and how beautiful!

The Wolf woke up from his dream, opened his eyes, and saw for a moment the pines transformed into palms, the snow into sand, and the Moon a shining Sun. But with one rub of his tired paw, the winter returned, and for the first…
