Announcing Pledgecamp + Humanity 2.0

What is going on?

The entire Pledgecamp team is honored to announce the partnership with Humanity 2.0 and The Laudato Si’ Challenge to empower entrepreneurs who are addressing the grand challenge of force displaced through businesses that are: impactful, sustainable and ethical, with the goal of sustainably improving the lives of 10 million people excluded from Our Common Home by 2020.

What is Humanity 2.0?

Humanity 2.0 is a human progress accelerator that identifies impediments to human progress and works across sectors to remove them by sourcing and scaling bold, innovative solutions. Their vision is defined by five beliefs:

1. They are one species, with a collective responsibility for shaping our future.

2. Challenges to humanity must be met by focused and coordinated action.

3. No human being has more, or less, intrinsic value than any other.

4. Every human being should have the opportunity to realize their full potential.

5. Common resources should be used to further the common good before private interests.

Why is this happening?

On June 18, 2015, his Holiness Pope Francis released Encyclical, Laudato SI in which he critiques consumerism, irresponsible development, laments environmental degradation, global warming, and calls all people of the world to take “swift and unified global action”.

If you are curious and curious enough, you can read the entire 184-page document on the official Vatican website (If you end up reading the document, please let us know your thoughts!)

Why do we care?

Laudato Si contains a large paragraph dedicated to technology. His Holiness views technology as a key contributor to the environmental crisis and human suffering. He mentioned that many technological solutions are nothing more than short-term techno-fixes attempting to remove symptoms rather than addressing the underlying environmental, social, economic, and moral and spiritual problems. The environmental crisis can be solved if our immense technological developments are accompanied by a “development in human responsibility, values, and conscience.”

Pledgecamp is going to solve a big issue that still persists in the crowdfunding world. Together we will make crowdfunding awesome, safe and reliable.
