Meta has been making strides in the fight for metaverse adoption by releasing use cases and apps such as Horizon Workroom, a virtual working environment.

Meta integrated NFT into its subsidiaries, Facebook and Instagram, in addition to acquiring the virtual headgear, Oculus, in 2014.

Chris Cox, the Meta platform’s Chief Product Officer, disclosed at the World Economic Forum 2023 that Meta is working on a comedy club metaverse.

Chris Cox disclosed during a metaverse session at the conference that Meta is considering exploring comedy in the metaverse; “we’ve been trying to find out if comedy can work,” he said.

Although it may be a valuable idea, Chris acknowledged several limits or obstacles experienced while piecing it together. Chris brought up the issue of audience size. The Meta comedy club is currently under building process and has an 18-person comedy room that lacks the murmur, laughter, and audience hearing each other. Chris emphasized the importance of crowd size, stating that “comedy club experiences are not only about viewing the community, it’s about hearing the audience laugh.”

Chris indicated that in order to solve the Meta comedy club metaverse’s audience size problem, some other necessary features or functionality would be swapped.

High concurrency is required to optimize audience growth, which may sacrifice other capabilities like as high-resolution experiences and latency.

“If you want something to walk, you need high concurrency, and if you want a high resolution, you have to trade off high concurrency against high concurrency, and if you want high concurrency against latency.”

He went on to say that this explains why the metaverse isn’t currently in high resolution.

The comedy club metaverse experience would involve a large number of participants who have had their avatars rendered, headsets placed over their faces, and their movements relayed via the internet. However, none of them can be pre-rendered, and they must all be precise and timely, so if it indicates you’re responding to a joke, it is communicated in a matter of nanoseconds.

Aside from the difficulties of launching a comedy club metaverse, Chris noted that “a hyperlink” is a constraint of the metaverse that does not yet exist.

The model of journey from one type of experience to another is covered by hyperlink.

“One of the things Facebook and Instagram are doing is offering tools to creators, and the creative tool we give them is what makes the experiences unique,” he added, referring to Meta platforms products.

More specifically, “the internet is a pretty good way to think about the metaverse because the internet and some parts of the internet are very coky with each other; are self-consistent and have a single designer, server and privacy, and identity model where you understand the system,” Chris explained. These systems are interconnected, allowing you to go from one location to another.

Meta has also worked on VR/AR products such as headsets, smart displays, and AR glasses.
