Dev Diary: Introducing the Mysterious Village
Ahoy, readers! We’re happy to be bringing you another monthly Dev Diary from our single-player Plodding Isles game. If you haven’t yet checked out last month’s dev diary, we gave our readers an insight into the art and game design for Plodding Isles.
If you’re new here, or unfamiliar with what we’re doing, we’re currently developing something exciting; an otherworldly action-adventure game set on an island where nothing is as it seems.
The Village
Playing a central role in the story of Plodding Isles, the village is home to almost all of Plodshore Island’s peculiar residents; many of whom have lived there for centuries and witnessed the island’s devastating downfall.
The village was once home to a booming local economy in which residents traded produce and services with one another, flourishing under the effects of the island’s unnatural bounty.
It’s your job to find out what happened there.
Earn the villagers’ trust, restore the destroyed ruins of an ancient industry and bring prosperity to the island once more. As long as you help them, the artisans, shopkeepers and craftspeople of this community will dust off their old tools and return the favor.
Whether you’re whipping up watermelon cocktails at Bogo’s Beach Bar, collecting produce from the local Sausage Maker or — if you’re brave enough—plotting daring quests at the Adventure Agency, just remember not to get too comfortable—an ancient magic still lingers on the island, dooming the villagers to spend an eternity here. Can you free them?
Art & Development
The buildings of Plodshore Island host a range of stores and services for you to get stuck into. As always, we’re excited to keep you updated on design and development progress, and we’re sharing some of our recent additions with you below.

What’s Next?
In our mid-December monthly update, we’ll be sharing some gameplay and combat, and elements from our behind-the-scenes story writing and game universe creation.
Our upcoming lore deck outlines the history of the Plodding Isles universe and spans countless ages (including the subject of our single-player origin story and build-up to the events of our multiplayer RPG many thousands of years later) and will be released in a public format — with all the exciting in-game storyline hidden! — for everyone to view.
Importantly, we’re going to be touching on our economy over the coming months, and we’ll give you a brief overview of how we’re planning to structure a player-driven open economy within the Plodding Isles ecosystem, with a focus on multiplayer interdependency between in-game professions and resources.

We’re just at the tip of the iceberg. This is only a glimpse of where Plodding Isles is at, and we can’t wait to share some gameplay with you soon!
