Life at Plotly: People & Culture Blog #12

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work at Plotly?

In this blog series, we will provide insight into the daily experiences of working at Plotly. We have interviewed team members from various departments, including Engineering, Customer Success and Solutions, Sales, and Professional Services, to give a comprehensive view of Plotly. Through these interviews, you will learn about the individual journeys of our team members at Plotly and their current roles and responsibilities within the organization.

Why did you choose to work at Plotly? What made us stand out?

I came across Plotly while working at Roche six years ago as a data scientist. I loved then how easy and powerful Dash is, and I love now how I get to work at a company that makes data more accessible.

What would you say to someone who was considering Plotly as a place to work?

Join! Plotly is an innovative and collaborative company with a great culture of curiosity and learning. You work alongside a wonderful team of smart and kind individuals.

What advice would you give to someone new joining Plotly?

Embrace learning and collaboration. Plotly is a place where you are continually challenged and have many opportunities to learn and work on impactful projects.

In a few sentences, what do you do at Plotly?

As a product manager, I drive the development of new features and work closely with cross-functional teams to define the roadmap and product strategies. My day-to-day involves talking with customers, communicating with stakeholders, and prioritizing features to deliver user-centric solutions that make Dash easier to use.

What are your proudest accomplishments at Plotly?

I’m currently really excited about some of the AI initiatives I’m spearheading, which will enhance our customer experience and streamline Dash’s functionality. Within Dash Enterprise, I’ve greatly enjoyed collaborating with the team, particularly in the development of key features. Capabilities include optimizing the user platform for greater control over memory usage and license seats, implementing a shared persistent filesystem to accommodate large datasets, introducing viewer analytics for customers to track their page views, and incorporating highly demanded tools like Databricks and Ag-Grid.

Have you read, watched, or listened to anything recently that has really impacted you?

I recently read The Lean Startup: How Today’s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses by Eric Ries. It reinforced the importance of iterative product development and validated learning to mitigate risks while developing features.

Where do you look for inspiration?

I find inspiration in many places, including conversations with colleagues, industry events, and staying informed about emerging trends. Seeing how a customer uses our product is also an excellent source of inspiration.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

Nature (to reset and recharge) in a park or hiking in a mountain
