When the world seems dim and chaotic, Google Doodle timely placed a spotlight on Pacita Abad, a Filipina Ivatan artist who disrupted barriers with flying colors.

Pacita Abad (1946–2004), made history as the first woman to receive the Philippines’ prestigious Ten Outstanding Young Men award. A recognition that has always been given to men for the last 25 years until today in 1984 where she was vested for the illustrious award.

Supposedly to study law after finishing political science at the University of the Philippines, Diliman in 1967. She went to the United States, then changed careers and studied painting at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and The Art Students League in New York City.

Since then, she traveled the world and painted her way as an artist. For 30 years, Pacita Abad produced over 4,500 artworks and exhibited her paintings in over 200 museums and galleries around the world.

Free-spirited and brave, akin to her paintings, she strove for awareness in socio-political matters…
