Black Friday. Cyber Monday. We called them overrated last year and our opinions haven’t changed. They’re mostly schemes to get you to spend money you wouldn’t have otherwise. Which can be a problem when you’re a college student. BUT if you’re determined to make something out of this weekend, we’ve got some practical hacks & tips and special deals we think you’ll appreciate!

(1) Use discounted gift cards to save even more.

You get the sale discounts. And you get even MORE savings by paying with physical or e-gift cards you buy at a discount. 🎉 Genius! You can do that via Raise or Gyft.

(2) Check eBay on Saturday after Black Friday & after Cyber Monday.

People take advantage of the sales to buy discounted items & sell them online for more profit. 🤔 That means there will be an influx of new items acquired from those sales on eBay — which will still be much cheaper! Plus, you get to sleep more — which you’ll be grateful for during your finals in a few weeks.

(3) Use the Amazon app to scan barcodes in store & check for cheaper online prices.

If you decide to venture out to the stores, make sure you have the Amazon app so you can easily check items for better deals on Amazon!

(4) Use camelcamelcamel to make sure you’re actually getting the best Amazon prices.

This awesome, free tool shows you the pricing history of Amazon items. It even lets you know when the price drops. You might find that the BF/CM sale prices actually aren’t the best ones! You can get it here, also as an extension.

(5) Get the Nintendo Switch + Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + a free $50 GameStop gift card for $299 (best deal there is).

Throwing this in here because of all the hype. This deal is hands down the best one you’ll find. Yes, better than Amazon too. Time to study less next semester? 🎮

(6) Get Apple products on discount (new Airpods anyone?).

Apple will have special deals between Nov 23 (Friday) to Nov 26 (Monday). Check out the event page here. BUT there are often better deals via third party sites like Newegg.

Airpods will be available online at Newegg for only $140 (save $19) — only this Friday! Promo code = BFAD155. 🙊🎵

(7) Get those 3rd tier HDTVs (but not the brand name ones).

Did you know most “doorbuster” TVs on Black Friday are made specifically for that day and of lower quality?! 🤭 If you’re just looking to get a relatively affordable but decent HDTV for your dorm room or apartment, it’s the best time to get it.

(8) Rack up cash reward points with Drop, automatically.

Earn cash rewards by activating your favorite brand offers, connecting your debit/credit cards, and buying from those brands! Drop is even offering extra cash rewards for select brands for a week. All rewards are easily redeemable in-app. Get the free app here.

(9) Get crazy student discounts on UNiDAYS.

This is the ultimate, free membership-based student discount platform! They’re offering deals exclusive for students this week, such as 50% off Adidas, 33% off Audible, 15% off Kate Spade and H&M… See more deals here.

(10) Do a “Spend Less on Shopping” challenge on Pluto.

It’ll be so freaking easy to splurge over the coming days. 🤑 So we encourage you think about other saving or purchase goals you might have, like that ski trip or even just having enough money for next semester! Create a saving goal for that on the Pluto app, then set up a spending challenge for shopping so you can automatically track your spending, avoid spending too much, and visualize your savings towards that goal.
