Sorry for delayed updates on the progress, and always thanks for you interest and support for the project and team. We’re back with the updates for March, 2018.

The Rename

We’re keeping our focus on the search engine service which we’ve been calling the “Beta Search” service. Now we’ve given it a name: SCINAPSE. As many of you might have guessed, Scinapse is a compound word of science and synapse. We wanted to denote that the project’s goal is to be a connecting hub for researchers.

As soon as we finished renaming the service, we also did some works for Search Engine Optimization for better outreach to users. It might take several weeks to actual take effect.

The Database

Scinapse’s database consists of the metadata around 170 millions of academic articles. We’re continuously normalizing the data, and currently more than half are well cleansed and standardized. We owe great portion of the database thanks to the Microsoft Academic.*

The Service

  • You can now search with DOIs like “10.1080/1475636031000071817
  • also with journal names like “Journal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry
  • Search algorithms are modified for better responses.
  • You can now filter the search results with publication years, impact factors, journal titles, and fields of study. **
  • Author names are followed by “estimated h-index”
  • Each article now has individual page. You can write and delete comments on the paper in these pages or see the list of references and citations. More features will be added to this “article pages”.
  • You can export the citation formats from article pages. (BibTex, RIS, MLA, APA)

The Remainder

For next couple of weeks we will be developing things like,

  • MyPage (individual pages for users, and potentially authors)
  • Bookmarks & history(recent logs)
  • additional features for article pages, just as mentioned above

*
Part of Scinapse’s database is thanks to Microsoft Research with
ODC-BY license.

**
Some search results might show only the filter for publication years. This will be fixed soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.
