The How Might We (HMW) framework is a problem-solving technique that helps to reframe problems into opportunities. By asking the right questions, individuals and teams can come up with innovative solutions to problems.

HMW was originally created to define and frame design challenges, but it can be used in many different situations. To use the framework, one should start by looking at the statement and reframe it by adding “How might we” at the beginning.

The ideal question is neither too broad nor too narrow, and it should give enough room to brainstorm and create both crazy and feasible ideas/solutions.

HMW reframing allows teams to brainstorm innovative and creative ideas, and encourages the development of a safe environment for brainstorming. The HMW method allows teams to reframe pain points in a positive way and open up to new possibilities that can help them find the best solution.
