Our 7 best Bett Show moments

Bett Show is always a highlight of the year for the Pobble team. This year was one of the best shows yet! We’ve attended the show for the past 6 years and it’s always great to connect with like minded educators from around the world. Over 800 leading companies, 103 innovative new EdTech startups and nearly 40,000 attendees made for a busy, but brilliant few days! We’ve rounded up our top 7 standout moments from the week.

Pobble got a shout out from the DfE!

The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore MP opened the show with a nod towards the UK’s world-leading role in EdTech. Whilst speaking of the launch of Nesta’s innovation fund and the winners of the first round, Mr Skidmore said they included some really great products such as Pobble! We’re delighted to get a shout out from the main stage. We also had a visit to our stand from DfE minister Theodore Agnew and Department for International Trade minister Geoff Gladding. It was brilliant to be able to give them a demo of the Pobble platform and share with them the impact that Pobble is already having in UK and International schools.

Pobble podcasting!

Podcasting is something we’re fairly new to, but during the Bett Show our Co-founder Simon was asked to be interviewed by Dr Rod Berger about our Pobble journey so far. They had such a cool little booth on the Soundtrap stand and were super speedy at getting the podcast on to Spotify! Have a listen to Simon’s podcast on ‘The power of sharing’ here.

Edufootyaid!

#EduFootyAid is a national initiative that uses the power of football to promote teacher wellbeing and raise money for Mind, the mental health charity. Mental health is an incredibly important issue in the education sector and society at large. Bett 2020 hosted the first national all-regions tournament and the first all-female game! Sadly our Co-founder Simon was injured and couldn’t join in the fun on the pitch this time, but he enjoyed catching up with lots of the players and supporters, including the lovely Rachel Orr who opened the match with an awesome rendition of Nessun Dorma. Nearly £1500 was raised and there’s still time to donate if you can.

Pink shirt Thursday!

Ever wondered why Pobble wear pink on a Thursday? #PinkShirtThursday is a wonderful initiative to raise awareness for Cancer Research and championed by educators from around the world. Dubai Primary teacher Andi Price does a wonderful job of championing the movement on Twitter. We joined in with Pink Shirt Thursday live from Bett Show last week. Lots of people were keen to hear about how #educatorsinpink are raising awareness of cancer and why it’s so poignant for the Pobble team. Will you get involved? It’s easy to take part, simply don a pink top every Thursday and shout it out on social media using the hashtags!

The launch of the EdTech Evidence Group!

During Bett Show we supported the launch of the #EdTechEvidence group. The EEG brings together leading UK EdTech companies who share a belief that there needs to be a step-change in the level of evidence in EdTech. We are proud to be part of the newly formed group alongside 8 other fabulous leaders in EdTech. We’ve signed a pledge, committing to working with the EEG, suppliers and schools to transform the way EdTech is evidenced and perceived in education. As one of the founding companies, we’re committed to demonstrating our efficacy and impact through evidence. You can find out more about the initiative here.

The 2020 Bett Awards

Don’t our founders scrub up well? The annual Bett Awards in association with Besa are a highlight for many Bett attendees. As previous recipients of the award for best classroom aid for learning, teaching and assessment in 2018, it was brilliant for Simon and Jon to attend the ceremony again and see the new award winners for 2020. Congratulations to all of this year’s well deserved winners. Huge thanks to Sparx for inviting us to join their table. Black tie made a nice change from the Pobble t-shirts!

Meeting friends, old and new

Our team works fully remotely so it’s brilliant to get the opportunity to get together. Bett Show provided us with the perfect opportunity to catch up and make exciting plans. It’s also an excellent chance to connect with like-minded educators and companies and keep up with all the EdTech news. Huge thanks to Dom Traynor for the invitation to the Adobe Creative Educator Social. We loved the photo props! We also attended the TeachMeet social organised by the brilliant Dawn Hallybone on Friday night. A great opportunity to catch up with some Pobble friends and meet some new people.
