MetaCartel Dragon Quest Hackathon Ideas for Pocket.

Guys, this is our first official hackathon sponsorship from Pocket, ever!

Probably just like you, it has been some wild form of a hero’s journey to get to this point.

Now’s the part where we enlist the powerful allies we’ve acquainted with to help get us to that landmark where we learn something deep and insightful about ourselves that was obvious in hindsight but we were too stubborn to see — so apparently we needed an existential threat to really make it clear.

That landmark is Mainnet, which will be Q2/Q3.

And that existential threat was that fact that we launched Testnet, relatively smooth… and boom! COV-19 and Macro-Economic breakdowns.

So fellow compatriots, here are the two quests Pocket set with brief reasoning and some ideas that you can play around with or choose to pursue your own path.

The goal for these prizes is to get feedback on our Testnet as well as to stimulate conversation about some of the cool things that can be done leveraging Pocket’s unique architecture. Pocket is the only decentralized API layer for blockchain apps that leverages crypto-economics for major cost-savings (going to be very important in these uncertain times), and sustainable decentralization of node infrastructure (also very important in these uncertain times).

1. Best Pocket JS SDK integration

  • Build or deploy a cool Ethereum App to Pocket using the JS SDK.
  • Proof it
  • Give us feedback on the experience and how to make it better.

2. Build a Multi-chain app with Pocket

  • Build or deploy a cool multi-chain app leveraging Pocket as an interface.
  • Proof it
  • Give us feedback on the experience and how to make it better.

Some Ideas

FlashLoan-Proof Oracle

How would you leverage an incentivized network to provide an oracle service across any public dataset? Chat with Michael @o_rourke#9796 on discord if you want to brainstorm with him.

Lightweight Block Explorer

Caveat, we are already in the process of building one of these, but chat with Alex F @NYMD#0063 on discord if you want to brainstorm your version.

NFT Exchange

What would a decentralized network of servers exchanging NFTs look like? How would they stake to ensure honesty?

pokéDEX that’s decentralized from the infra up.

The holy grail of DEX’s are an elegant way to do BTC and ETH pairings, Pocket is uniquely positioned to accomplish this and much more. Michael @o_rourke#9796 on discord would love to discuss this further.

Decentralized VPN

Bandwidth is one thing that many cloud servers have available; can you use Pocket Network to leverage the existing supply of cloud servers with excess bandwidth to create a decentralized VPN service? Alex F @NYMD#0063 came up with this idea in our last Pocket Retreat, it has some serious legs so feel free to ping him in discord about this.

A Messaging protocol

Censorship-resistant communication. There is quite a bit of work being done on this in the space, if there is a way in which Pocket Network can add value to here, let’s find it.

CHEAT CODE: Literally take any other quest for an ETH or Multi-chain app, and deploy it using Pocket JS SDK to try and finesse your way into slaying 2 Dragons with 1 Sword.

Discord is where we will be engaging and supporting, go ahead and join both Pocket Discord and the DragonQuest Discord to have fun while making the world better.

Is 500 DAI enough of an award?

Probably not.

The main focus here is to get feedback on the protocol itself, so in truth, it’s the most honest and actionable feedback that comes from playing with our tools that will likely win out in the end.

But, here’s the hook!

Yesterday we launched our incentivized testnet, with POKT grants available for all participants.

Anyone who meets the criteria for the Pocket Quests will be able to claim additional POKT rewards as you will be considered a part of the incentivized testnet program.

There will be additional incentives, opportunities, and congratulations for any ally that follows through with any interesting threads that come from this engagement.
