Pocket Community Coordination.

As we have recently released the Pocket Core MVP, the team and early community members have been reflecting on our prior experiences in decentralized communities and refining our community strategy.

This post is meant to explain the objectives, guidelines and ideal dynamics of Pocket communications channels. Our goal with this post is to equip any potential contributor with the knowledge necessary to navigate themselves swiftly to a place in the community that provides them the most value.

Telegram

Objective

To act as a rolling bulletin board of news and links that people may want to take action on or chat about.

Typical Posts:

A typical post from Pocket Network on telegram will include

  1. A link to a piece of content with a brief summary
  2. A link to the channel where a person can dive deeper with the team and others.
  3. A link to social media posts related to the content for easy engagement.

What to expect from admins on Telegram:

  1. Answering simple questions and linking relevant resources
  2. Polite guidance of valuable chats to a channel better suited(Discord or Pocket Forum)
  3. Deletion of spammy content
  4. Banning of spammy accounts
  5. Moderation of toxic behavior.

Telegram is great for staying up to date, and chatting amongst each other about all that is happening. If that is what you want you can subscribe at https://t.me/POKTnetwork

We want to encourage this open chat, yet at the same time, provide the resources and direction for more detailed contributors to involve themselves in Pocket’s community. Which brings us to the next channel.

Discord

Objective:

To act as the coordination center for community members, team and partners.

Typical Discord Activity:

  1. Case-specific support for new developers using pocket tools
  2. Support for new node operators setting up nodes
  3. Coordination between community members for DAO proposals
  4. Coordination between partners and select groups

What to Expect from Admins:

  1. Typical “moderate toxic and spammy stuff” necessity.
  2. Identifying the correct roles for members to unlock certain channels, permissions, and opportunities.
  3. Communications day-to-day to improve coordination amongst distributed groups.
  4. Polite guidance and direction for “indexable” convos to move into Pockets Forum.

To learn more about each channel and the roles, read the description at the top of each channel or tag anyone labeled “Pocket-Core” to help guide you.

Discord works really well for coordinating distributed groups that may have different goals and we would love for nothing more than a community member bettering themselves by connecting with another awesome person or group and building something great together.

If you want to start collaborating, join the discord here https://discord.gg/gJpHrrs

With that being said, Discord is still a chat interface and certain cases are not the best fit, such as iterative research, proposals to Pockets DAO, and curation of developer support docs. For that, we have our third and final coordination channel.

Pocket Forum(Discourse)

Objective:

To host research discussions that result in an indexable resource for the Pocket Community.

Typical Forum Activity:

  1. Posts/threads that will flesh out a proposal to the DAO.
  2. Posts/threads on Economics and other research.
  3. Reports from the Pocket team that can be indexed and referenced easily.
  4. Posts/threads relating to current/potential partnerships.

What to expect from Admins:

  1. Typical “moderate toxic and spammy stuff” necessity.
  2. Design and administration of the badge system.
  3. Organizing/reorganizing threads to stay relevant and on topic.
  4. Curation of conversations into posts/reports.
  5. Direct outreach and support for great community members that we would like to support.

More detailed descriptions of the Categories and Guidelines can be found as descriptions within each category.

In summary for Pocket Coordination we use

Telegram from news and chatter.

Discord for group coordination.

Discourse for research and development.

Looking forward to seeing you in the Pocket Community!
