However it is necessary to fulfil certain prerequisites for starting an online sellers’ account. We will take flipkart as our standard marketplace and go through its requirements.
Flipkart is one of the biggest and trusted e-commerce websites in India. For selling on the portal you need to register yourself as a Sole Proprietorships Firm, Private Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnerships or partnership firm. Their fundamental requirement is a Tax Identification Number or a TIN, which is basically a VAT number. The legal documents required to start selling on Flipkart are as follows:
- PAN Card: The PAN card is the most important document. The copy of PAN card of the individual or the company/firm, whichever is applicable, is to be submitted.
- VAT/CST or TIN Number: VAT/CST is very important for every seller if he/she wants to sell offline or online in India. It is mandatory, but not for all the products. As per Flipkart, it’s not mandatory for books and un-stitched dress materials, on which VAT is not levied.
- Bank Details: Current bank account is required along with supporting KYC documents. The bank account must be in the name of the business.
