We hope that the year is wrapping up nicely (and calmly) for you.

As 2017 comes to a close, we’d like to give you an update on what we’ve been up to in the latter part of the year. You can keep up-to-date with what has come out on our Changes blog, and you can see what our team is working on here. Please keep those feature requests incoming, we’re listening!

✨ Recent updates ✨

📊 The new budget summary

We have overhauled the budget summary at the top of the Budget page to provide you with greater insight into how you’re tracking against your budget. Income is presented separately from expense, with planned budget surplus and deficit clearly shown.

Your budget summary can now be viewed for any date period too, and these analysis dates can be applied to the individual category budget rows as well.

The new budget analysis was a massive cross-team effort from top to bottom, and we’re very happy with the result — we hope that you are too. Please let us know how you find using it.

💌 Attachment Inbox

With the new Attachment Inbox, photos and documents can be sent via email straight to your PocketSmith account. Great for storing receipts, invoices, bills and any Timeline worthy photos.

When the feature is turned on, a unique email address is created just for you. Any image or PDF files sent to this address will be stored and ready for you to assign to transactions.

Read the Medium article here for a bit of background on Attachment Inbox, and learn how to activate it here.

📈 Auto-budget tool

We’re thrilled to announce that PocketSmith can now automatically make budgets for you.

This handy tool analyzes the transactions in each category, and creates a weekly or monthly budget based on the average spending or earning in the category. It’ll even figure if it looks like a bill or a transfer as well, and adjust the category to suit.

We’re still tweaking the analysis rules, so please do let us know any feedback you have. You can access the auto-budget tool in the Budget page toolbar, and you can learn more here.

📱 Our new Android app

We’re very happy to say that PocketSmith’s new native Android app is live. The app is a completely modern rebuild, and provides a solid base that we can comfortably build on into the future.

This means that Android and iOS apps now match each other feature-for-feature. Android users, thanks for your patience! We know it’s been a long road to this point.

If you downloaded the old beta Android app “PocketSmith Companion”, you’ll need to install the new version from scratch — just head to the Play store here and install the new app.

2018 will be a great year for PocketSmith on mobile, with new team members joining us early in the year to help push things forward.

☀️ Better transfer handling

Now when a transaction is assigned to a transfer category, that transaction will also be automatically marked as a transfer. This means less manual handling to get transfers out of your reports! Learn more here.

💰 Affiliate program

If you have a website, blog, or a big following on social media, you can now become an affiliate. This lets you receive a commission for any new paid customers that you send our way. Interested? Read more here.

👨‍👩‍👦‍ PocketProfiles — how we use PocketSmith

Everyone at PocketSmith has different financial goals and solutions. Some of us have mortgages and loans, some don’t. Some of us have kids, some of us are single, and some of us share finances with a partner. We have different hobbies and priorities for how we spend our money, but we all use the same app to manage our finances.

To give you more insight into how you could use PocketSmith, a bunch of us have written staff PocketProfiles. These are short reads which give you some insight into how we make use of PocketSmith. We hope they give you ideas about how you may want to use PocketSmith, too. Read the series here!

🐚 Dunedin Local Heroes

PocketSmith’s Local Heroes are cultural touchstones that we think make the city we’re based in a better place. The series recognises each hero for all they have done, while giving them a chance to share their story with you. You can read the series on our Medium blog here.

✨ What we’re working on

We’re now publishing what we’re actively working on at the moment. This list is frequently updated as progress is made, and is the best place to find out what is coming up next for PocketSmith. We’re looking forward to new features and upgrades making it onto this list soon.

And that’s a wrap for 2017! Thank you for being with us, and we hope that we continue to make a difference.

From all of us here at PocketSmith we hope that you have a happy and safe holiday season. Here’s to a prosperous 2018!

The team at PocketSmith.
