Cold Fronts — Week 5 of POD-sessed
It’s (almost) officially AUTUMN! Fall is my time to shine: my birthday is 10/17(Bricksquad), I love cooler weather, and #SpookySzn gives me an excuse to watch Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas again, at my big age. I skipped last week because outside of my regular podcast rotation, I didn’t listen much. My headphones were secure this week, so read on!
Here’s a rundown of the categories:
New = A brand new show/season of a series.
Fave = an episode from a show in a category that I frequent. Spoiler alert: this will always either be a comedy or true-crime pick.
Sleeper = Something that isn’t in the top charts but maybe should be?
Wildcard = an episode from a category that I wouldn’t usually be interested in.
New: Bunga Bunga: “I Know How to Make People Love Me” — This premiere episode didn’t quite do it for me. It’s a true-crime show but told with a comedic twist, and there are very few people who get that right, in my opinion. There were funny moments, but not enough to keep me fully engaged. HOWEVER, because I love Wondery’s shows so much, I may come back to this once all episodes are available. Maybe.
Fave: CounterClock: “Episode 1: Cluttered” — Admittedly, I didn’t hear season 1 of this show. For some reason, I listened to the first episode and didn’t go back, but now that I’ve listened to episode 1 of season 2, I think it’s required listening. We open with a small-town murder that seems to be open and shut, but like our good friends from Serial, the wrong man is probably behind bars. Which means a killer still lurks. (Or maybe not anymore, the case is 30 years old.)
Sleeper: Snap Judgment Presents: Spooked: “Teachers Pet” — YES! This episode gave me “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” teas, and I am here.for.it! There’s nothing like a slew of bonfire horror stories, just in time for #spookyszn. We head to the city of Netflix(Los Gatos, CA) and learn about a rookie teacher who inherits a haunted classroom.
Wildcard: My Favorite Murder: “Flapper Bob” — If you’ve been listening to podcasts, you’re probably giving me the side-eye right now. I was an avid listener of MFM for a long time, but I stopped because I lost interest. Every piece of entertainment has a shelf like, and this one spoiled a while ago for me. I gave it another shot this week and was quickly reminded of why I stopped listening: I don’t like listening to live shows! As you may have learned, I’m particular about sound quality, and live shows don’t sound good in my headphones. I prefer to be there or listen to studio quality. *shrugs*
See you next week!
