Podcast intro: How to easily and quickly write a great podcast intro script content or opening that will grab the attention of your listeners

Now, let me ask you these simple questions.

· Are you looking for podcast intro examples that can inspire you to create your own opening?

· Are you looking for tips to help you choose the right sound or music track for your podcast opening?

Before we do, I would urge you to watch this short video clip for an overview of what goes into writing a memorable introduction.

Now, let’s start with our textual analysis . Imagine you are looking for that special person in your life. Walking into a coffee shop one fine afternoon, you spot this blonde looking girl and you have this hunch that she is the one your heart has been looking for.

So, you pull a chair to sit by her and strike a conversation with her.

The shy lady smiles as she sips black liquid from a steaming cup of coffee. Your kind words about her hairdo seems to have impressed her. So you start talking and before you know it, her phone starts to ring.

Her mom calls to find out about her whereabouts since the family will be going on a road trip in a few hours. So, she hurriedly picks up her purse and says

‘’ I am sorry I have to leave now. It was so nice talking to you. By the way, I am Lisa. Yours? ‘’

What would have said in response to that if you had only 60 seconds to do so?

Although that conversation is purely imaginary, it has some kind of connection with the way listeners react to your podcast intro.

You have worked on a great podcast title and show summary that the listener has clicked to listen to your show. Now, you’ve got anywhere from 30–60 seconds to get your intro across in an engaging manner.

What would you say?

You see, what your podcast intro says and how well you say it will give your podcast listeners a reason to stick to your show or leave for good.

Writing an engaging podcast intro is one of the best ways of getting your audience to stick around and become well-acquainted with your podcast show since it’s essentially a teaser to keep your fans on high alert while they await the entire episode. Aside from that, it provides a sneak peek into the episode’s content.

If you are an avid podcast listener, then you already know that a great intro consists of the following basic elements:

a. written or oral script

b. voice over artist reading your script

c. background music or poem or inspirational quote or whatever you think will resonate best with your audience.

The list above helps just about anyone to know who you are and what you are actually going to offer without confusing your listeners. It’s important to note that their inclusion should be brief since it is merely there to explain the purpose of your podcast’s existence.

podcast intro or opening

That brings us to the other side of the equation: the composition of your podcast intro and why it is so important to include them in your show.

Most podcast openings consist of one or more of the following and I am happy to share them with you.

1. The name of the podcast show : It helps your listeners to easily identify your show and its purpose. It’s similar to your name.

2. The episode number: It gives you an air of authority. For example, if someone lands on your website and sees Episode: #250, they will instinctively conclude that you have been doing this for a very long time.

3. The title of the episode: It gives the reader an idea of what your content is all about. A very catchy title forces the reader into reading your podcast description. The title should go hand in hand with the show summary.

4. Background Music or Sound Effects: It makes your podcast show not only easily recognized but also very entertaining. If you are looking for the best soundtrack for your opening, then I would recommend that you visit these royalty-free websites below and pick the right tune.

a. www.premiumbeat.com

b. www.incompetech.com

c. www.freepd.com

d. www.zapsplat.com

e. www.pixabay.com/music/

5. The name of the show host or hostess: Your listeners can easily recognize who you are.

6. The tagline or anthem of your show: It works just like point #6. However, it should be memorable and unique.

7. A very brief summary of the show or that particular episode: It gives your listener a reason to listen to you. It should hook your audience right from the get-go.

8. A roll call of your sponsors if you have any: They pay the bills…so why not give them ‘’free’’ publicity for feeding you.

9. Recorded date: Not widely used. But it’s employed if your content is time-sensitive.

10. Name(s) of your interviewee or panel and why they are qualified to speak on the subject matter: It lends credibility to your show.

Please note: You need not include all of that in your podcast intro. I have found that the popular podcasts make use of the ideas from 1–8.

For your studying pleasure, I am happy to share with you some well-known podcasts that make good use of the above components in their industries plus written examples that go with them.
