Ocean Waves

A poem of anxiety

Ocean Waves

My mind plays tricks
while breath comes fast,
waves crash, stomach contracts
mind — lungs — stomach
whirlwinds of thoughts
swirl around making
no sense threatening
to pull me under
in one full swoop of
fear.
Suddenly lungs remember
to fully expand
stemming the breaking
of crashing waves
inhale, exhale, inhale
deep breaths through
lungs that calm the waves
as the moon rules
the ocean tides.
