the trials and tribulations of chronic illness amidst a pandemic

Always and forever will I hold dear
That fortuitous day in May
When we talked shop
And pondered over aging clocks
In your city atop a hill
Overlooking that beautiful belvedere

Blissfully unaware of what lay ahead
Alight with the joy of an eccentric new friend

If it isn’t obvious, let me be clear
Should I act in your stead,
I’d never be cavalier

In weather inclement or fair
A source of quiet camaraderie
And in moments of crushing despair
To sit beside you in solemn reverie

A constant companion to bear witness
And a candle to illuminate the dark
In times peaceful or perilous
To guard your secrets and your heart
