Every time I see your name
I sit and pray
Hoping you’ll somehow know
That we’re okay

When it comes to you
I say yes as a reflex
When it comes to you
I have no defense

An ether surrounds the universe
And all sorts of messages are transmitted through it
But traipsing around the edge of a black hole
Is more than a little precarious

I can’t afford to stay
Where I clearly don’t belong
Reminiscing over echoes
And sonorous swan songs

I close the door on tomorrow
And patiently bide my time
But the next time you phone home
I promise to hold the line
