Something hot on a cold cold day
You add more logs to the hearth
When all is said and done
You are illuminated by the light
When everything is so serious
You feel so calm while near the flames
Even at the very first glance
The scenery is all that is needed
The simple joy of warmth and hope

When the cold starts seeping in
Even with the shutters drawn tight
When the nights stretch long
And the days become short
You sit by that fire
While it’s roaring to life
Safe and warm by that fire ablaze
Humming a tune so sweet and soft
The simple comfort of being alright
You watch the long day
Fade into night
Curled up in your blankets
You rest so deeply
Your dreams so peaceful
Knowing everything is alright

The seasons change and soon enough
The sun shall reclaim this frigid land
But until that time has come again
This fire is your greatest delight
