May 2019 Monthly Update
Po.et is building the better web: the decentralized protocol suite for content attribution, discovery, monetization and reputation.
May was spent mostly preparing and increasing our infrastructure in anticipation of releasing the ability to use Po.et with non-text file types like audio, photos, and videos. We ran into a few more walls than we expected to, but we were able to get through the hard parts. We will just barely miss our internal goal to ship the first two Connecting the Dots milestones by the end of the month. Be on the lookout for the announcement, walkthrough, and some other supporting content around the launch of these new features in the coming days.
Next up, we’ll be digging back into the core of the protocol to get ready for expanding the new claim types. These new types will give us a massive boost to the expressiveness of what types of information we can store on the network. There are multiple use cases that will rely on our ability to attest that certain relationships exist between pieces of content (plagiarism detection, version control, licensing) which will now be possible natively at the protocol layer.
We’ve already started working on significant Work Explorer UI improvements that will be required for all of these new claim types. Specifically, our UI presents a Work Claim as the main object of which the rest of the Work Explorer is focused on. In the future, we’ll need to do a stronger job at prioritizing the overall Work being described and including all of the claims from multiple sources. It may seem like a small nuance in how we’re laying things out, but this will require some pretty dramatic updates on the interface plus additional API endpoints.

Development Labs
We’ve recently been in touch with a few of our longtime community developers about contributing at a higher capacity and starting to knock out some more of the application-level ideas we’ve been sitting on for the past few months. By putting everything through our Development Labs program, we’ve been able to keep the core team focused on protocol implementation/scaling work as opposed to building user interfaces. We’re currently looking at basic applications that leverage Po.et like bots to work with social media channels or additional CMS plugins. If you’re a developer that would like to contribute to Po.et through building an application, please reach out to us by emailing contact@po.et.
Meeting up with Po.et
Blockchain Week NYC was a huge hit and gave us a chance to mingle with a number of other projects and Po.et friends. The energy that’s been gone for the last few months has come back and the conversations are heating up. There’s nothing quite like getting 1000s of fanatics together in the same place and soaking in the great conversations. It felt like we were living in the future, if only for a few days.
Bitcoin 2019 is our next event in San Francisco on June 25th and 26th. If you’re in any way involved with Bitcoin, you’ll want to come to the event. On June 22nd, we’ll be hosting a meetup for our Po.et friends. We might try to pull in a few other friends of ours to make the meetup a little bit more publishing/content focused instead of just about Po.et. May was really focused on just simply pushing through the issues in front of us so we could deliver a high-quality launch of the new file types support. We can’t wait to release one of our most anticipated features and looking forward to hearing your feedback soon!
