Domestic Terrorism, I mean 4 month old Sleep Regression
I’m sending out this post from the trenches of a horrifying war zone. The world was calming down prior to this month. My wife and I were getting the hang of this new parent thing and happily lived with our new modified schedule for sleep with our son. Then the hounds of war called out from within my child. Four months had gone by. He’s beginning the teething process. He’s becoming more and more mobile so he wishes to be more active. Then the tactical nuke went off. Sleep regression has taken hold of my happy little family and the dark Lord of enraged insomnia has possessed my son. The once peaceful little ball of cuteness now refuses to sleep without fighting and yelling into the wee hours of the morning at his disapproval of our sleep schedule. Well, I’m sure its really a host of other reasons, but its fun to think of it that way. Or have I gone delirious?
Sleep Regression
Okay friends let’s Break down this particular form of terrorism. Sleep regression is a period of 2 to 6 weeks where your child completely loses his s#£t! I mean they get fussy and wake frequently and become exceedingly cranky. These periods commonly occur at 4 months, 8 months, and 18 months of age.
We didn’t know about this segment of baby life. The war was upon us before we had time to mount a defense. I’d say about two weeks ago this started and we were on the verge of taking him to the emergency room. He just got so fussy as well as voraciously hungry. Yet some nights he barely wanted to eat. The one constant is he didn’t want to sleep long at all. Our normally happy infant has become this enraged ball of melanin that WILL be heard. We were on the verge of insanity when it began. Now we just let the bombs blow around us as we work out a system of bomb diffusion.
The bulk of the time I end up looking like the picture above, but at least I know he’s progressing normally. Sleep regression is supposed to occur. As a new parent, I thought It was something wrong at first with his development and I felt like crap. Now I’m just trying to roll with the punches and praying for a quick release from this phase. Next step, TEETHING.
Pray for us.
