Caught

In blind alleys

Author, Las Condes, Chile. Private photograph

Up and down the avenues
Stretching sentiments
Caught up in blind alleys
Facing the consequence

Muse and ruses magnified.
Things get out of hand.
Trying to tame torment
No one will understand

Sensitised with subtleties
Words with double meanings
Who knows the real intentions
Or angle of the leanings

The new taste is eaten in haste
Inedible digestion
Lingering lassitude
Calling into question

The means, the ends, and the attitude.
And exacting the exit clause
Faint appreciation
One-handed applause

See the smoke? Is it a joke
Smoke can lead to fire
Searching through the embers
For fragments of desire

Looking back, I saw the crack.
Before the bubble burst
An inevitable break
Learned, used, and rehearsed

From the hills, the sound resounds.
And echoes in the valleys
Caught up in a landslide
Ending in blind alleys

It may be in my mind
Or a place named Las Condes
Here there, and everywhere
Blind alleys have no address
