Elegance
And grace.
Elegance and grace also save face
Facades learned, rehearsed and activated
Dressed to kill adept with skill
Likely ending up looking laminated.
Ironing out the bump’s wrinkles and the lumps
Smoothing on scented, exotic lotions
Going out the door, falling on the floor
Getting up and going through the motions.
Going out with poise nullifies the noise
Speaking with a plumb in the mouth
Perfect execution of hard-learned elocution
A woman from the bosom of the south.
Pantomime and prancing and occasional dancing
Cheek to cheek with the lights down low
Mascara dripping, other apparatus slipping
Make sure your partner doesn’t know.
Many are the joys associated with poise
And perils from the actual implementation
Some of us have gone others carry on
The foibles of the older generation.
Standing in the cockpit of a catapult
Flying to outer space
Wondering if this is happening
A recent member of the human race.
As the ending nears the histrionics and the fears
Dissolve as I drift by on a cloud
Far away from the fears of mortals
And further from the madding crowd.
Up here, I can pause to meditate free of noise
And think of things whilst strumming my guitar
I flirt with a flute of wine that’s entirely mine
And nonchalantly flick the ash from my cigar.
Poise is a piece of the action
A means of balance and control
Better use it quickly, my darling
And let those around you know you’re on a roll.
Travel on the path of childhood
Try getting married time to settle down
Then waddle through the Middle Ages
And in old age likely end up like a clown.
Poise is the way to redemption
Keep your chin up and join the endless queue
Cook up some lasagne for dinner
Then think there’s virtually nothing you can’t do.
