Not Forgotten

Left on the beach out of reach
You walked the other way
next to the endless ocean
Your sandals say you went away.

Gone but not forgotten
Which way did you go?
The issues of yesterday
I don’t know.

Is it in the headlines?
A page takes precedence.
I was reading the fine print.
Is that called intelligence?

Black clouds are amassing.
The heavens open up
Drumming on the tin roof
Watch nature close-up.

Followed by a blue sky
The morning trill of birds
Followed by explanations
In a string of words.

Gone are long-lost yesterdays.
Packed neatly away
Hiding in Pandora’s box
For another day.

Gone are musty memories.
Things better forgotten
Waiting to be reborn
embroidered in cotton.

How can moments disappear
Are there maids in waiting?
What will happen next
Whose head is now shaking?

In and out of attitudes
Which platitude comes next
Gone, but still remembered.
She’s deciphered in my text.
