Rumblings

On the horizon

The rumblings on the horizon
Lightning flashes from afar
Warning storms approaching
She was stalking, angry, and bizarre.

Uneasy stirrings of the feelings
And evocations from the past.
Counting the seconds
Between the first and last

Dogs flee beneath the tables.
And succumb to fear and scare.
Tails tucked between the legs.
And cringe in mute despair.

The palpable charged electrons
And fingers of white lightning.
And the rumble of the thunder.
It was electrified and frightening.

It’s almost like an omen.
A message from the elements
To not rest on the laurels.
I was left hovering on a precipice.

Shelved memories are returning.
So carefully placed in store.
Brought on by distant thunder
I am now knocking on the door.

Stealthy steely, and persistent
Now no distant memory.
The storm clouds are building.
In a new trajectory

Will the clouds blow over?
What will be the cost?
Or will the distant thunder
Cause another impost.
