Jacobean Orange-Lady
T’is an artful dance you dare, said She.
“Four wishes at once, my Lady,”
said the Tiger dressed in suede.
“Some connive to convince, yet
Forever faithful, I remain
silent and incumbent in the shade.”
Then he sang
Soldier soldier burning bright
Stamp out your fire,
For we all once died of fright!
And told how
Jocasta’s double sorrow echoed
“Play chess my love, or die…”
Horizontal heroes never give in with bitterness
And Tisiphone supports her death design — since
Purgatory is of rhetorical significance.
But then again,
Out of one idea grew a poppy
Out of two ideas jumped the moon
Who, staring, pretended not to see
A Tiger eat a lady beneath a Juniper tree.
