Past and Future
I no longer wish to be a prisoner of my past,
Every dawn begins a new phase;
I no longer wish to dwell on misgivings of yesterday,
Today, I wish to embark on a new way;
I no longer want to chastise my past self,
My past self is what I build on today;
I no longer wish to remain angry at those who came and left,
The ones who stayed heard the truth my heart meant;
I no longer wish to look at my younger self with ignorance,
My younger self taught me lessons with grace;
I no longer wish to erase a part of my past,
It has provided me wisdom so vast;
I no longer wish to rush to grow up,
My life will unfold as its meant to be;
I do wish to learn from my younger self,
Thoughtfully, in its warm loving embrace;
I am thankful to my younger self for its patience,
It didn’t give up and built my resilience for the present;
I wish today commences a new chapter,
Where I stand on deep roots of past to rise higher;
The past, once a burden,
Is now the foundation upon which the future is written.
