Lying here with me,
you should be gone by now.
You said I looked sad.
I hadn’t realized.

Now it’s 2am,
a random blackout,
and we’re surrounded
by emergency candles.

The unintentional ambiance,
and our breathing,
permeates the still silence
punctuating our proximity.

You are in my arms,
and your lips
(I taste them already)
tremble, inches away.

I kiss you slowly
while you press
closer still,
my arm around you.

You’re so beautiful
in flannel pants and t-shirt
warm against me,
face soft against my lips.

I’m suddenly stalled
by the look on your eyes
asking me “now?”
I want to say “yes.”
