I desire to wake into happiness

I desire to wake into happiness,
Welcoming the sun with open eyes
Not yelling, “Let me be.”
I desire to reach for a cool drink of water
Not some blistering hot pool, my mind clear
From the breaking of the dawn.
Walking I found myself staring at the dirt
Where flowers might be in the spring.
I desire to know their names
And where they come from.
Sleeping I find myself cradled in your arms.
Those sinewy hands of desire slowly
Raising me up to the sun.
