“Just Hello”
I wish that I could see you,
See you again
And just say hello.
It’s been twenty years now,
And we were so young,
But still I would just,
Just say hello.
No other words needed,
No filling in gaps,
No pretense,
No chatter,
Just a hello.
And then for one moment,
One brief interlude,
I’d melt into you
With the passionate touch
Of our time long ago.
A pause, a deep breath,
From the rest of our lives,
Just one hello,
And a tender embrace.
Then we could go-
Go on with the rest,
The rest of it all;
With lives that distract
And lives that are full,
Of everything else
We ever did want.
With just one exception,
Just without us.
